Soula is a member of Royal College of Podiatry and earned her BSc Honours degree in Podiatry from the SMAE Institute, Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.
Her interest in foot care stems from her experience in the Bespoke Shoe Industry, where she addressed various needs related to footwear and comfort. She learned how uncomfortable feet can affect daily life and lead to declining foot health.
For Soula, a podiatrist’s main role is to identify the causes of various foot conditions, prevent them, and enhance patients’ foot health. She also refers patients to other specialists when necessary. Depending on the situation, Soula offers self-care advice and education to help ensure that feet remain comfortable and in good condition.
Common conditions treated by a podiatrist include foot pain from corns, calluses, fungal infections, ingrowing toenails, and verrucae (plantar warts). Important issues that may require attention include arch pain, bunions, and heel and forefoot pain.
Soula highlights the significance of her patients’ engagement in achieving pain-free feet and overall wellness, empowering them to take charge of their foot care. She tailors each appointment to meet the specific needs of individual patients, offering extra time and attention to those with diabetes, circulatory issues, or other conditions that elevate the risk of foot health problems.
Continual Professional Development (CPD) is essential for podiatrists, and Soula is dedicated to expanding her knowledge and skills to improve patient outcomes. Since qualifying, she has been pursuing a diploma in Biomechanics in Podiatry. This training enables her to assess the structure and function of the limbs and feet to identify factors causing discomfort. Biomechanical evaluations allow for the prescription of orthotics, which can alleviate pain and enhance mobility and flexibility.
